This year was the first time SBC juniors had entered Ross as a squad, and although the races didn't go so well I think everyone enjoyed the evening. There's no party at Ross, so off the juniors went on a PUB CRAWL!! I think the lads were definitely feeling the after effects in the morning though. Bewdley also set up a marquee, provided music and lights, so we still had a bit off a party once the pubs shut.
The only win of the weekend came from the WJ18 4x comprising of Jess Danby, Rachel Saunders, Becky Davis and Becky Saunders
Bewdley Regatta
Bewdley was yet again another good regatta for the boat club juniors. After an unsuccesful nationals the squad arrived at Bewdley determined to make amends, which we did in style, only narrowly missing out on the victor delorum. The party was ace, not to sure about the camping though! I think all I need to say is the guy snoring in the tent, and everyone from SBC knows what i'm talking about!!!

National Championships 2006 (Scotland)
We all went to Scotland expecting high winds, clouds and rain. In reality it was boiling hot(29*c), and many of us came back sunburnt. However the nice weather made the weekend even more enjoyable, and despite the lack of medals everyone still had a great time.
The daytime was relaxing, sun bathing and watching all the other racing. Once the racing had stopped in the evenings, it was time to visit the park, or sit around the campfire singing songs and telling jokes. We made new friends, and met up with some older ones. The weekend was ace really, and then just when you think you've left for home and won't see anyone for a while, they always seem to appear again, overtaking each other on the motorway or at the same service station.

There were some excellent races on finals day this year. All of the single sculls performed excellently, Matt finished 4th, Nikki 5th and Laura 6th. All of these races were close, pushing them forwards to bring home the medals next year.
The J16 4+ was outstanding on the Sunday. Although they came 5th, they were in medals contention all the way down the course. Everyone was pleased with the row, especially when they beat RGS Worcester, a local public school. Well done boys.
Ironbridge Regatta
Ironbridge is always a great regatta for the SBC juniors, and this year was no different. It was scorching all weekend, which is just how we like it for camping. We had loads of wins on both days and the party was the best of the season!
The lads won their novice 8 on the Saturday and we all know what that means.....throw 'em in!!! As the lads hit the water they were joined by a lot of the senior men who got pulled in along with them. The men didn't mind as they were celebrating winning their S2 8+.
The WS2 4x lined up against a bewdley quad, reigniting the rivalary between the two neighbouring clubs. As it turned out the bewdley scullers were no match for the nat champs, who won easily.
What can I say about the party? Well I can't really remember much....lol! We all made loads of new friends from all over the country, and partyed hard all night long. What about after the party? We went back to the campsite, where we sat with bewdley around a campfire, sharing stories and singing songs about the past, present and future.
Many of us had a little too much to drink at the party, which left us glad that the Sunday course was shorter!lol. The party, however continued into the day as we racked up more wins for the junior squad.

Henley Royal Regatta Qualifers
A junior quad, comprising of Dan Brighton, Matt Brighton, Al Gavin and Nic Fethers travelled up to Henley on Friday hoping to equal the acheivements of last years quad by qualifying for the fawley cup. After one of their best rows, they just failed to qualify but were happy with the paddle.
The lads are still going up to Tthe Royal Regatta to watch the racing, and have got their hands on some stewards tickets for the Saturday. Go enjoy yourselves boys, you earned it!
Henley Womens Regatta
It was scorching hot down in the Thames valley, at Henley Womens regatta. The WJ18 4x travelled down to compete in the Bea Langridge cup. The quad had a good row, and only lost by 3/4's of a length to a tough LEH crew, who got pushed all the way for the win. The whole squad was pleased with the row and I was especially glad that I didn't hit the booms!lol!
Laura Ray also raced in her single(WJ 1x) but got knocked out of the competition by a strong Marlow sculler who won by 4 lengths.
The National Schools Regatta
Saturday
Friday
WJ15 1x - Nikki Price
Nikki performed really well, but failed to qualify for the next round. Her time would have won any of the other heats that morning. Hard luck Nikki!
J15 1x - Matt Brighton
Matt had a good heat race to reach the semi-final, but failed to progress any further. He finish 7th out of 31, and climbed a personal mountain by beating the Evesham sculler for the first time.
WJ15 2x - Emma Perkins/Katie Haywood
Rachel Saunders/Charlotte Gibson
The weather forecast didn't look good as the girls took to the water. The heavy rain and strong headwinds didn't suit the lightweight girls as they struggled in the conditions. Despite this both performed well but didn't reach the semi-final.
J16 4x - Matt Brighton, Nic Danby, Sam Maher, Luke Barnett
The lads made it through the processional round, but failed to qualify for the final after meeting tough competition in the semis.
WJ18 4x - Laura Ray, Jess Danby, Stacy Gwilliam, Becky Saunders
We had a tough semi in strong headwinds, but stil managed to qualify for the final. We finished fourth in the final(the best ever for us in this competetion), an excellent result considering the conditions and lack of training.
J18 1x - Lewis Beech
Excellent scull to win a bronze medal.
Sunday
WJ18 1x - Laura Ray
Sculled efficiently to qualify for the semi-finals. However, after an excellent row, Laura was just edged out, coming third in her semi-final.
Northwich Regatta
It was sunny, rainy, windy and even hailed at Northwich sprint on bank holiday Monday. The juniors were on winning form yet again, even after a long weekend at the schools regatta.

Shrewsbury Regatta
WOW, what a regatta (apart from the weather, lol)! It was fun, fun, fun all the way. There were wins on the Saturday and the Sunday for many of the junior crews. That includes Hannah beating the boys in her single. You go girl! The party had to be one of the best we've been to in years. Just ask any of the juniors and they might tell you what we got up to!

The WJ15 2x, Nicola Price and Charlotte Gibson reached the grand final, and finsh in 6th place.
Evesham Regatta 2006
It was a slowly but steady start for the SBC juniors at Evesham sprint this year. It was a cold, cloudy day, but as you all know, we can have fun wherever we go! With the help of the adults we managed to get our hands on the victor ludorum this year. Well done everybody!
