Heres a special mention to my crew the Dolly Rogers! 4 of my friends from school have decided to take part in ths years works fours, who I am coaching.
Good luck girlies!
Imagine the fun we could have taking four people, who have never rowed before, giving them 5 training sessions, and then making them all row against each other on a day that is always full of laughs. Thats exactly what we do through the summer, and this years the same. Come to Stourport and enjoy the fun on the 17th June!
If you would like to take part in this years works fours, all the details are available on the sbc website (www.stourportboatclub.co.uk) or come and see me at school.
It was a beautiful day with temperatures soaring to 27*c down at the riverside. The crowds grew as the day went on, with support mounting for all the crews taking part. There was some excellent racing through the morning, with increasing standards in the afternoon as ony the top crews made it to the finals. Well done to everyone who took part because the day wouldn't be the same without the competitors! We hope to see you again next year!
Just some of the fancy dress that was on show today!
As always the SBC juniors turned out in force to support the club in anyway possible.
After a day full of racing, there's only one thing to do, PARTY!!! The band Rock Revival were ace. It may look a little empty on the inside, but there were about 100 people outside in the cool night air! It was a great end to a briliant day.
It seems I missed some fun, while I was away at henley so heres what I've heard along the gossip line.
Al Barnett and Joe Dyer went down to the weir to collect a stray dingy and paddled it back using flipflops! The boys had one flipflop on each hand and travelled a full 2k back to the club! All sounds really strange to me but I'm assured it happened.lol.
Once a year the whole boat club comes together for one evening only, to race each other in the Sindey Law. This is an inter-club competion where double sculls are raced over 350m.
However, there is a twist..... ALL DOUBLES MUST BE MIXED!!!
....and to make it fair each double is given a handicap to even out the racing, the handicap being given on the standard of the people in the boat.
This years winners of the Sidney Law were Harriet Conway and Joe Dyer. Well done!!!!
Fun on the river bank! But Dan, what's your head doing there?
<-- Fev what have you done wrong this time? They all look angry.
The first race for Ben and Ben, awww .... its cute.

Group photo!!!!!
A battle of epic propotions that ended up being re-rowed!!The gwilliams won in the end.
American Ben discovers the joys of English coke!
The regatta season had finished but in true SBC style, we needed one more weekend to celebrate the past summer. So, it was decided that the boat club as a whole, old and young alike, would go canoeing down the severn for the weekend. We started our mammoth journey on Saturday, at acton(just outside Shrewsbury), where we paddled 17 miles to Ironbridge.
IRC were perfect hosts, and i'd like to say a huge thanks to the club for letting us camp and providing entertainment throughout the evening. It rained all night which was alright for most, except Al Barnett, who ended up camped in a huge puddle - kinda like a water bed.:)
I think I speak for most of us when I say it was hard to get back in the canoes Sunday morning. However, once we were away and going it wasn't so bad. Aches and pains started to disappear and even the sun came out. The rapids just after ironbridge were great fun for most, although the ones who fell in didn't think it was funny at all. After another gruelling 26 miles we reached Stouport Boat Club late in the afternoon.
Well done to everyone who finished the total of 43 miles from Acton to Stourport!
The annual SBC Junior dinner and dance was as good as ever. Everyone turned up in their best suits and dresses for the formal event of the year.
Congratulations to Matt Brighton - most wins of the year, Emma Perkins - personality of the year, Bekki Gibson - Cox of the Year and Wayne Cooper & Joe Dyer - Kamikaze crew of the year!
Thanks go out to Paula for organising the night, and all the others who cooked and served us the food.
It was a cold December morning, but everybody turned out in force to support the club. Everybody was split into scratch 4's and raced over 350m. There was mulled wine in the club house and christmas puddings for the winners.
After many tight races, and dead heat in the final, the eventual winners were Bekki Gibson(cox), Ian Hough, Pete Lashford, Matt Brighton and Brett Gwilliam.
